Exeter Anti-cuts Alliance is holding a public meeting this Tuesday 21 February 2012 – at 7pm at Exeter Central Library Castle Street, Exeter, EX4 3PQ in the upstairs meeting room.
Andrew Lansley’s Health and Social Care Bill has become notorious – and for good reason:
- It will open up the NHS to massive profiteering from US healthcare corporations
- It will effectively mean each hospital is run as a separate company in competition with others
- Up to 49% of operations will be able to be paid for privately – creating a 2-tier health service
- It will be very costly and disruptive at a time when NHS budgets are being squeezed by £20 Billion
- It removes lots of checks and balances – putting healthcare standards at risk
- It will be the end of the NHS as we currently know it – it will become a privatised health service
The meeting will host several speakers representing workers in the NHS and campaign groups such as:
- Dr Geoff Barr – Keep Our NHS Public
- Stephen Bench – Occupy Exeter
- Speakers from Exeter Anti-cuts Alliance
This is your chance to force the Tory government to climb down on their ideological free-marketeering privatisation of the NHS; to scrap the Bill and to continue to support the NHS as we know it, as Cameron promised in their election campaign:
Don’t let the Tories get away with this! Everyone in the UK deserves healthcare solely on the basis of medical need; not on their ability to pay.
All Welcome to this free meeting
